Our meeting found a “back to school” crowd receiving an update of our federal legislature from US Representative Jeb Hensarling of Texas’ 5th District. Congressman Hensarling has made it a tradition to brief the club on DC politics once per year.
As a former club member and Dallas resident, Hensarling has also participated annually in Lake Highlands’ 4th of July Parade, run by ECLH. Considering Congressman Hensarling is not running for reelection, we were treated to some perspectives that many politicians may withhold during the campaign season. The Congressman discussed international trade status, immigration, the complex relationship between the executive and legislative branches and most importantly where his collegiate allegiances lie (his undergrad is from A&M and J.D. from UT…he bleeds maroon, whoop!).
While the Congressman may not provide the club with DC updates, we hope that he continues to participate as a guest or member. Congressman, thanks for representing the 5th and part of Lake Highlands!
