Last Thursday evening 8/8/19, we gathered for our annual preview of the upcoming LHHS football season and presentation of megaphones to the Bell Boys. Coach Lonnie Jordan introduced the football team captains and shared a few comments about each of the team leaders. He joked that a couple of the large young men who play on the O-line and D-line were eager to sit back down and attack the sizable menu item “the Gut Pack” prepared by our host site – Back Country Bar-B-Q.
Coach Jordan outlined some of the differences in the style of play we should expect from the Wildcats in 2019, which is driven by the skill set of the players you have in any given year. He specifically noted that he has high expectations along the line of scrimmage and with the special teams. We were pleased to have offensive coordinator, Corey Campbell, and defensive coordinator, Reid Waller, with us as part of the season preview of the Wildcats. The overall football program is on a nice growth curve and, in addition to varsity, we will also field two junior varsity teams and two freshman teams. (This is a result of 230 kids being in the program, whereas a few years ago, there were about 160.)
In addition to talking football X’s and O’s, we were glad to welcome the 2019 LHHS Bell Boys and faculty sponsor, Brody Lyons. Our club has been a longtime sponsor of the Bell Boys and appreciates the focus Brody is putting into having young men of high character representing our club and the high school. The Bell Boys always have fun and entertain the fans. The 2019-2020 Bell Boys are Robbie Carson, Michael Dorsey, Barrett Pesterfield and Gib Spurr.
Our club looks forward to a great year on the football field both while the clock is running (watching the football team) and during time outs (being entertained by the Bell Boys).
